This presentation describes how a close working relationship built on open communication and trust among a local employer, their work comp insurance agent/carrier, and their medical provider can not only help to better manage claims to reduce the overall cost of risk, but also may help to better manage the OSHA log, (TCIR, DART).

DJ Mittan is the Environmental Health and Safety Specialist at Marmen Energy in Brandon, SD.  DJ earned a Master of Science degree in Industrial Management from South Dakota State University in 2003. Her mission is to positively influence people in their workplaces, and by extension, the community, to live safe, healthy lifestyles.  When she’s not advising, counseling, preaching, or teaching people on the job, she’s a volunteer with B-Squad Dog Rescue, fostering rescued pets.

Dustin Rhody

Clinic Manager - WorkFORCE Occupational Health

 

Dustin Rhody’s innovative approach to Occupation Health Medicine has helped build WorkForce as one of the regions leaders in Occupational Medicine. Born and raised in Toronto, SD, Dustin has experienced the work ethic and rigors many of our SD labor force and recognizes the importance of developing the partnership between healthcare providers, employees, and the employers. Educated with a business degree from Lake Area Technical Institute, Dustin has worked in various roles of Business Development and currently serves as the Clinic Manager of both Sioux Falls Urgent Care and WorkForce Occupational Health. Since joining WorkForce in 2013, Dustin has developed better ways to provide valued service and innovative solutions to companies in dealing with Work Comp claims. As an active member of South Dakota Trucking Association and SDTA safety committee, SESHRM member, the AGC, and Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce, Dustin is well rounded to help navigate the detailed workings of OSHA and Workers Comp claims.

Senior Claims Consultant - Howalt+McDowell Insurance, a Marsh & McLennan Agency

 

Tanya Schlenker is a senior claims consultant for Howalt+McDowell Insurance, a Marsh & McLennan Agency LLC in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In this role, she is responsible for claims trending and analysis for clients which includes multiple reporting responsibilities. In addition, she partners with the MMA team to isolate root cause issues, determine solutions and execute implementation strategies in an effort to mitigate experience modification rates (EMR) and for the betterment of the clients overall risk management program. Tanya is responsible for creating effective partnerships with carriers and clients in an effort to build strong processes for claims management. Her work extends to assisting clients with Workers Compensation and Liability claim education and in creating processes that help clients manage their internal OSHA logs, claims reporting and other compliance initiatives.
