Analysis of Causation Determination

with Practical Applications

Establishing work relatedness of occupational injury is often difficult and requires careful and reproducible analysis.  Accurate determination is necessary for appropriate public health and work place injury prevention policies as well as for fair compensation and disability benefits.  This review of causation and work relatedness will provide an overview of medical and legal terminology along with practical implications, outline generally accepted scientific methods of causation determination, and review literature evidence of work relatedness for common occupational medicine conditions.
